1) Compensatory Afforestation Fund Bill, 2015:

Lok Sabha passed the Compensatory Afforestation Fund bill, 2015 for setting up of a National Compensatory Afforestation Fund and also a State Compensatory Afforestation Fund so as to utilize the unspent 41000 crore rupees earmarked for forest land.

2) E-enabled application, Project Management & Information System (PMIS):

Union Railway Minister Suresh Prabhakar Prabhu launched e-enabled application, Project Management & Information System (PMIS) in New Delhi for monitoring of all the Railway projects throughout the country.

3) Protecting People through Nature, Report:

World Wildlife Fund (WWF) published a report titled ‘Protecting people through nature’ with the subtitle ‘Natural world heritage sites as Drivers of sustainable development.’

As per report, nearly half of the iconic 229 natural and mixed World Heritage sites in 96 countries around the world, including Western Ghats, are facing significant threats.

4) Special Breakthrough Prize in Fundamental Physics:

The Selection Committee of the Breakthrough Prize in Fundamental Physics conferred a Special Breakthrough Prize in Fundamental Physics for detection of gravitational waves.

It is a 3 million dollar award.

5) EXIM Analytics Dashboard for export, import data:

To provide easy access to detailed trade performance of the country, Minister of State for Commerce and Industry Nirmala Sitharaman launched EXIM Analytics Dashboard.

The portal developed by the Directorate General of Commercial Intelligence and Statistics.

International Monetary Fund (IMF) Regional Economic Outlook for Asia and the Pacific said that India will have 7.5 percent growth in 2016 and 2017.

7) Mark Selby won World Snooker Championship.

8) 63rd National Film Awards:

President Pranab Mukherjee conferred National film awards for the year 2015.

Dada Saheb Phalke Award was conferred to Manoj Kumar.

Amitabh Bachchan received the Best Actor for his role in Piku.

 Kangana Ranaut received the Best Actress Award for Tanu Weds Manu Returns.

9) World Press Freedom Day:

The World Press Freedom Day was observed across the world.

The theme was Access to Information and Fundamental Freedoms - This Is Your Right.

10) For NCR-Delhi, Supreme Court banned all diesel cabs from May 1.

11) RM Lodha-panel to reform Medical Council of India:

The Supreme Court of India appointed a three-member panel headed by former Chief Justice of India (CJI) RM Lodha to watch the functions of the Medical Council of India, the regulator of medical profession and education in India.

12) Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Amendment Bill, 2015:

Rajya Sabha passed Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Amendment Bill, 2015 seeking to regulate the mining sector in the country.

The below are the important Current Affairs / GK Updates of 1-2^nd May, 2016.

1) International Labour Day/ International Worker's Day:

On 1 May 2016, International Labour Day was celebrated.

The theme was Celebrating the international labour movement.

The theme assumes further significance with economic relationships undergoing rapid change in the emerging global economic order.

About 80 countries across the world declared it as national holiday.

2) Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana:

Prime Minister launched the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) at Ballia, Uttar Pradesh. It will benefit the poor, especially the women aims at providing cooking gas connections to 5 crore BPL beneficiaries over the next three years.

3) Chandranna Bima Yojana:

On the occasion of International Labour Day, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu launched Chandranna Bima Yojana in Vijayawada.

It is an insurance scheme for the working class people covering about 1.5 crore workers of the state.

Any insured worker who meets an accidental death and permanent disability will be paid 5 lakh rupees.

Worker who suffers partial disability will be paid a sum of 3 lakh rupees.

4) Underground corridor of Namma Metro:

Union Urban Development Minister Venkaiah Naidu and Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah inaugurated the underground corridor of Bangalore Metro Rail.

Bangalore Metro Rail is also known as Namma Metro.

The newly inaugurated underground section from Cubbon Park to City railway station which is also called Purple Line, will be operational from 6 am daily.

5) Real Estate (Regulation and Development) Act 2016:

Real Estate (Regulation and Development) Act, 2016 came into force would help making necessary operational rules and setting up institutional infrastructure for the interests of consumers.

6) Adi Praman, online app for tribal caste validity certificate:

Maharashtra Governor C Vidyasagar Rao launched Adi Praman, a web-based application to provide caste validity certificates online, first time in any state.

The portal name is etribalvalidity.mahaonline@gov.in

7) Madhya Pradesh High Court stated that the reservation to underprivileged during appointments is logical but reservation in promotions in the State as unconstitutional.

8) Indian shooters bagged 3 gold, 1 bronze on the opening day of the ISSF Junior World Cup in Suhl,

9) Air Services Agreement:

Under the Convention of International Civil Aviation at Chicago to promote international air services between their respective territories, India and New Zealand signed an Air Services Agreement for introduction of direct flights between the two countries.

1)India extended Line of Credit to Mongolia

India extended a Line of Credit (LoC) of 1 billion US dollars to Mongolia.

The LoC was extended after delegation-level bilateral talks between the Minister of State for External Affairs and Mongolian Foreign Minister in New Delhi

2) Union Government banned import of dogs for commercial breeding

Union government issued a notification banning the import of dogs for commercial breeding. The imports are allowed only for research or defence purposes.

3) Naveen Patnaik inaugurated 100 rural drinking water projects

Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik inaugurated 100 piped water supply projects for rural areas. T

he CM also pledged to make piped water provision in all gram panchayats by 2017.

4) Rajya Sabha passed the Industries Amendment Bill, 2015

The Rajya Sabha passed the Industries (Development and Regulation) Amendment Bill, 2015.

The bill seeks to amend the Industries (Development and Regulation) Act, 1951.

It proposes to bring industries engaged in the manufacture of potable alcohol under the exclusive control of States in all respects.

5) 29 April: Day of Remembrance for all Victims of Chemical Warfare

The Day was observed on 29 April 2016 by the United Nations (UN).

6) NITI Aayog launched urban management programme for capacity building of states and urban local bodies.

7) Gujarat government announced 10 percent reservation for EBCs

Gujarat government announced 10 percent reservation for economically backward classes (EBCs) in general category.

EBCs in the upper castes, include Patidars, with a family income cap of 6 lakh rupees a year that is 50000 rupees per month can avail the benefit.

8) UJALA Scheme launched in Madhya Pradesh

Union Minister for State (IC) for Power, Coal and Renewable Energy Piyush Goyal launched National LED programme -Unnat Jyoti by Affordable LEDs for All (UJALA) in Madhya Pradesh.  

9) Nelson Mandela Award

Tabassum Adnan, a women’s rights activist from Swat valley of Pakistan, won the prestigious Mandela - Graça Machel Innovation Award 2016 in Bogota, Colombia.

She won the award for the individual activist category.

1)NABARD sanctioned a loan of 1000 crore rupees to Haryana State Warehousing Corporation (HSWC) for purchase of wheat during the rabi marketing season.

2) NOAPS web portal of National Monuments Authority:

Union Tourism Ministry launched NOC Online Application and Processing System (NOAPS) Web Portal of National Monuments Authority developed with the technology and expertise of Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) to map 3686 ASI protected monuments and sites.

3) Heart of Asia conference:

The Heart of Asia (HoA) conference started on 26 April 2016 in New Delhi.

4) Price rise check in sugar:

To check the price rise in sugar and to reduce hoarding by wholesalers and retailers, Union Cabinet decided to bring sugar under the purview of stock holding limits on dealers by the state governments.

5) Jail term for chain snatchers:

The Maharashtra government increased the Jail term for chain snatching up to 5 years rigorous imprisonment with a fine of 25000 rupees.

6) 5% interest subsidy for flood-hit traders:

Jammu and Kashmir government approved five percent interest subvention with a cap of five lakh rupees per unit for a period of four years, that is, up to 31 December 2020 for flood-hit traders.

7) India may surpass China in attracting FDI:

The Japanese financial services firm, Nomura announced that due to ongoing reforms in India, India may surpass China in attracting Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in 2016, in terms of percentage of its GDP.

8) To implement Justice RM Lodha committee recommendations, Gopal Subramanium appointed as amicus curiae.

9) A Fire destroyed National Museum of Natural History in New Delhi.

10) World Day for Safety and Health at Work 2016 - 28 April:

The theme was Workplace Stress: a collective challenge.

Two lakh Government jobs to be created in India

Central Govt. will create two lakh govt. jobs by 2017/ two lakh govt. jobs by 2017 in India

It’s a very good news for all the aspirants who are seeking Government jobs In India. Central Govt. will recruit more than two lakh aspirants for jobs in various govt. departments.

The major reason for the sudden increase in hiring of employees is that many government departments are facing crucial situation in Group B and C categories because of temporary vacancies on fresh recruitment for the past few years. According to personnel ministry, more than 6 lakhs seats are empty at various central government departments.

Modi Government has decided to create new jobs and also to fill all existing vacant posts which may create more than two lakh govt. jobs in India.

The Central government has projected in the budget estimates for 2016-17 an increase of about 2.18 lakh in the existing workforce of 33.05 lakh, as in 2015, by 2017.

The biggest increase is expected to be made in the revenue department with 70,000 employees which includes income tax, customs and excise departments also.

Minister of State for Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions Jitendra Singh said on April 25, 2016 that the projection has been made after due consideration and keeping in mind the futuristic vision of the government. “The government, wherever required, takes into consideration creation of new posts.

The Cabinet Secretariat has already asked all ministries to mention “employment generation potential” in each scheme while seeking approval of the Union Cabinet and its Committees.

The government has started taking important initiatives by creating new government jobs in India and also by filling the backlog vacancies in various government departments in India.

1) 1 lakh Rupees per month to Rio-bound athletes:

Under the Target Olympic Podium (TOP) scheme, Union Sports Ministry to provide one lakh rupees per month as out of pocket allowance to the sports persons to help in their preparation for the Olympics and Paralympics Games at Rio de Janeiro, which will start in August 2016.

2) LPG project in West Bengal:

Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd (BPCL) got green nod for its 694-crore rupees LPG project at Haldia Dock Complex in West Bengal for developing LPG import terminal and storage, bottling and bulk distribution facilities.

3) FPAI Player of the Year:

Football club Mohun Bagan and Indian striker Jeje Lalpekhlua won the Football Players Association of India (FPAI) Indian Player of the Year award.

Nigerian striker Ranti Martins was named the Foreign Player of the Year.

4) Draft of Supreme Court Judge (Investigation Act) 2016 approved by Bangladesh Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

5) First time 2018 Commonwealth Judo Championships to be held in India:

The Judo Federation of India (JFI) announced that India will host the Commonwealth Judo Championships 2018.

6) Sikh Gurdwaras (Amendment) Bill, 2016:

The Lok Sabha passed the Sikh Gurdwaras (Amendment) Bill, 2016. The bill propose removal of an exception made for Sahajdharis in 1944 that allowed them to vote in elections for the Board and committees instituted under the Act.

7) Indo-Mongolia Joint Military Exercise, Nomadic Elephant – 2016:

Nomadic Elephant – 2016, the 11th Indo-Mongolia joint training Exercise commenced on 25 April 2016 in Mongolia for promoting military associations between India and Mongolia and to fight in Counter Insurgency and Counter Terrorism environment under the United Nation mandate.

8) World Intellectual Property Day 2016:

On 26 April 2016, The World Intellectual Property Day 2016 was observed globally.

The theme was Digital Creativity: Culture Reimagined.

9) India's first online interactive portal – Sahapedia:

The Union Government launched India's first online interactive portal on the cultural heritage of the country, Sahapedia.org. It’s a collection of resources on the diverse heritage of India.

It is non-profit society, headed by S. Ramadorai, who is the head of the National Skill Development Agency.

10) Regional Centre for Biotechnology Bill, 2016:

The Lok Sabha passed the Regional Centre for Biotechnology Bill, 2016 to provide statutory status to the existing Regional Centre for Biotechnology in Faridabad, Haryana.
