1) Trade
Facilitation Agreement of WTO:
India ratified the new Trade Facilitation Agreement (TFA) of World trade
Organisation (WTO). It will help India in enhancing economic growth by cutting trade
costs and supporting its integration at global level.
India became 76th WTO member to accept the TFA.
2) First Indian company to join EP100 campaign:
Mahindra & Mahindra became the first Indian company to join a global
energy campaign, EP100, led by an international non-profit group, The
Climate Group by committing to double its energy productivity by 2030.
If more companies adopt this campaign, the global fossil fuel
bill can be reduced by an estimated 2 trillion Euros and create more
than six million jobs globally by 2020.
3) Paris climate agreement
at UN:
In New York, Union Environment Minister Prakash Javadekar signed the
historic Paris climate agreement along with other 174 nations at a high-level
ceremony hosted by UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon.
The agreement aims at bringing developing and developed nations together
to combat global warming by reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
4) New Nominated members of
Rajya Sabha:
Under Article 80 of the Constitution of India and with the recommendations
of the Union government, President Pranab Mukherjee nominated six eminent
personalities to Rajya Sabha. President has a provision to nominate 12 members
in the Council of States (Rajya Sabha).
The nominated members are:
Subramanian
Swamy: a BJP leader from Tamil Nadu.
Narendra
Jadhav: a renowned economist and former member of the erstwhile National
Advisory Council (2010-14) and Planning Commission (2009-14).
Navjot
Singh Sidhu: Former Indian
cricketer-turned-politician
.
Suresh
Gopi: a Malayalam actor who acted in over 200 films.
Swapan
Dasgupta: a journalist and writer, who worked at senior editorial positions
in various publications which include The Indian Express, India Today and The
Times of India.
Mary Kom: Legendary
boxer and Olympic bronze medallist.
5) Popularly
known for raising the profile of the
Bond movie brand, Hollywood movie director Guy
Hamilton died. He was 93.
