2016.
1) Union Cabinet approved India for adopting
the Statute of the South Asia Wildlife Enforcement Network (SAWEN).
Union
Cabinet also approved India to become a formal member of SAWEN.
SAWEN is a Regional network comprising of eight countries in South Asia: Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India,
Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka.
It aims at working as a strong regional
inter-governmental body for combating wildlife crime.
2) Saraswati
Samman 2015:
Padma
Sachdev conferred with Saraswati Samman 2015.
Saraswati Samman for 2015 for her
autobiography titled Chitt-Chete, written in Dogri language.
The Saraswati Samman is an annual award for
outstanding poetry literary works in any 22 Indian language listed in Schedule
VIII of the Constitution of India.
3) Hridaynath Mangeskar Award 2016:
Viswanathan Anand has been selected for Hridaynath Mangeskar
Award 2016.
He was chosen for the award for his
contributions to the game of Chess by becoming five-time world chess champion.
4) Airtel granted
payment bank license by RBI:
AMSL , a wholly owned subsidiary of Airtel,
was granted the payment bank license by Reserve Bank of India.
5) 12 April: International Day of Human Space Flight.
6) Namami Gange Programme:
India and Germany signed agreement (for
Ganga Rejuvenation )on Namami
Gange Programme.
It is a flagship
programme of Union Government with a renewed impetus to decrease river
pollution and to rejuvenate the Ganga.
7) Renaming
of Gurgaon and Mewat:
Haryana government decided to rename
Gurgaon as Gurugram and Mewat as Nuh.
8) New
DG of BPR&D Appointed:
Maharashtra cadre IPS officer Meeran C Borwankar on 8 April 2016 was
appointed the Director General (DG) of Bureau of Police Research and Development
(BPR&D).
