K R Kamath, chairman and managing director (CMD) of Punjab
National Bank, will become the new chairman of the Indian Banks’ Association
(IBA) for 2012-13. He will take charge on October 1, after present Chairman
Alok Misra, CMD of Bank of India (BOI), completes his term. Mr Kamath is
currently one of the deputy chairmen of the IBA. Kamath will take over from outgoing chairman
Mr. Alok Misra who retires this month end.
The management committee chose Kamath to head the body at
its meeting, said a senior IBA official.
Kamath is working as
PNB CMD since
October, 2009. Earlier he also worked as
Allahabad Bank CMD. He will be taking
over from Mr. Alok Misra, who is going to retire this month. He is well experienced in various department
of banking sector.
Meanwhile, Indian Bank CMD TM Bhasin, United Bank of India
CMD Bhaskar Sen, ICICI Bank MD and CEO Chanda Kochchar have been appointed as
Deputy Chairmen of IBA. State Bank of
India Chairman Prateep Choudary will be the honorary Secretary of the
Association. The association is an umbrella body of 173 banks - public sector
banks; private sector banks; foreign banks, having offices in India; and urban
co-operative banks.
