Solicitor General of India: The Centre Govt. appointed its
longest serving additional solicitor general Mohan Parasaran as the new
solicitor general of India. He has replaced senior advocate Rohinton Nariman
for this post.
The tenure of Solicitor General of India is three years. His name was cleared by the
Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC). The post of solicitor general fell
vacant when Nariman resigned because of his differences with law minister
Ashwani Kumar.
Mohan Parasaran, who is currently the Additional Solicitor
General, is a senior advocate of the Supreme court and son of former Attorney
General K Parasaran.
Role Of Solicitor General:
The Solicitor General is subordinate to the Attorney General
for India, who is the chief legal advisor of
the Govt. of India, and its
primary lawyer in the Supreme Court of India. The Solicitor General of India is
appointed for the period of 3 years. The Solicitor General of India is the
secondary law officer of the country, assists the Attorney General, and is
himself assisted by several Additional Solicitors General of India.
