PLANNING COMMISSION
OF INDIA
1)The Planning Commission is an institution in the
Government of India, which
formulates India's Five-Year Plans, among other functions.
2) The Planning Commission in India was formed in March 1950
under Chairmanship of Pt. Jawaharlal
Nehru.
3) Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru was the first chairman of the
Planning Commission.
4) It is a statutory body.
5) It was formed to promote a rapid rise in the standard of
living of the people by utilizing the resources of the country, increasing
production and offering employment opportunities to all.
COMPOSITION
- The Prime minister
is the chairman of the Planning Commission.
- The Deputy
Chairman and the full time members give advice and guidance for the formulation
of Five Year Plan, Annual Plans, State Plans, Projects and Schemes etc.

FUNCTIONS OF PLANNING COMMISSION
1)To prepare five-year plans.
2) Determine the various stages of planning.
3) To make an assessment of the physical capital and
resources of the country.
4) Act as a Advisory body to the Union govt.
5) Prepare appraisal of program time to time.
6) To indicate the factors, hampering economic development.
7) Public co-operation in national development.
8) Perspective planning.
NATIONAL DEVELOPMENT
COUNCIL
1) The National
Development Council (NDC) was set up on August 6, 1952.
2) It was
established to build cooperation between the states and planning commission.
3) The National
Development Council (NDC) is also known as the Rashtriya Vikas Parishad.
COMPOSITION
Prime
Minister is the ex-official chairman of NDC.
- Chief
Minister of all states.
- Finance
Minister of all states.
- Governor of all
Union territories.
FUNCTIONS
1)To study the plans prepared by Planning commission and if
it finds any defect then send back to Planning commission for study. After
sorting out the defects give it a final shape.
2) to ensure the balanced and rapid development of all parts
of the country.
3) to review the working of the Plan from time to time and
to recommend such measures as are necessary for achieving the aims and targets
set out in the National Plan.
