Parthasarathy Shome has been appointed Adviser to P
Chidambaram.
Shome is returning after a span of four years. He was
advisor to the Finance Minister from 2004-08 during the UPA-I govt. He was also
a member of the PM’s Trade & Economic Relations Committee.
PM Manmohan Singh has appointed Shome as the Chairman of the
Committee on
General Anti-Avoidance Rules (GAAR) in July. The GAAR panel
submitted its final report to Finance Minister in October.
Shome as the co-convener submitted the first report on Goods
and Services Tax (GST).
